After a restless night of 10 or 12 hours of sleep I awoke somewhat refreshed and a little confused about the day and time. But no matter, as I now found myself in Barcelona with enough energy to try to enjoy it.
First, the entire group gathered in the hotel restaurant for a wonderful continental breakfast that made everyone feel a lot better. Then our faithful guide Serena picked us up in a bus for another day of sightseeing around Barcelona. She took us to the Sagrada Familia which is a catholic cathedral that has been under construction for one hundred years. It was designed by architect Gaudi and depicted scenes from the birth of Christ on one side and scenes from the crucifixion of Christ on the other side. The interior was massive as cathedrals in Europe tend to be.
I am not sure what to think of Gaudi as an architect because his style it quite a bit different from what one would expect to find in that era. He worked on this cathedral from the late 1800’s until his death in 1926. Gaudí is usually considered the great master of Catalan Modernism.

Then we went off to explore the old part of Barcelona with its narrow streets lined with small shops. Then it was off to the waterfront to visit the Olympic Village and the manmade beach that was all built to host the 1992 Olympics.

It was early afternoon and time to board our ship, The Serenade of the Seas, and so we were let off by the docks and said our goodbyes to Serena. Boarding the ship was as easy as could be and finding the nearest bar on the ship was also very easy. We had some buffet lunch and then we retired to our state rooms to enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony.
After the mandatory abandon ship drill we met up with our group in the Schooner Bar. Two more couples from Wrinkle Ranch joined up with us making us a total of 21. We soon went to dinner where the food was as good as one would expect on a ship such as this. I had sweet and sour shrimp soup and sea bass with lentils that I thought was pretty darn good. So much for my diet.
After dinner I went to watch some of our group play bingo which was not that exciting. Then it was early to bed as our shipped motored on towards Cannes, France.
